A child is a child
In some societies, mainly in developing countries, boys are more valued than girls. The reasons for this are mostly-traditional ones. When a woman gives birth to a baby, the question people usually ask is "is it a baby-boy or baby-girl?" They rejoice more if the new-born baby is a boy.
This attitude affects many women so much that some of them do everything they can to get a male child such as, going on diet, consulting charlatans, doing sacrifices even at the risk of losing their lives. What a pity!
